Field trip itinerary

 

DAILY ITINERARY

DAY 1

Meeting up in Levanto, either at the train station or in another pre-arranged location, depending on your means of transportation.

Check-in at the Municipal Hostel and time for unpacking.

Orientation meeting at the Hostel, followed by a not-too-serious lesson in Survival Italian.  Tour of Levanto followed by a beach picnic while the sun goes down.

 

DAY 2

Train to Riomaggiore, the first town of the world-famous Cinque Terre, and visit the town.

Walk the spectacular Camminata dell’amore (Lover’s walk) to Manarola.

Visit Manarola and then hike up to Volastra and the Medieval Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Salute.  Lunch in Volastra.

From there, hike the amazing trail to Corniglia through old vineyards, ancient stone walls, olive groves, and woods.

Arrive in Corniglia and visit the town.

Train to Levanto.  Rest time in Hostel or on the beach.  Dinner at a pizzeria in Levanto.

 

DAY 3

 

Morning boat trip to visit the hidden grottos and bays of the coastline, and then Monterosso and Vernazza from the water.  Mooring in Vernazza.

Everyone on their own for lunch in Vernazza (focaccia, panini, etc.) and a visit of the town.  Lecture with an expert about the floods of 2011 and the fragility of the Cinque Terre ecosystem.

Visit the Medieval Castello Doria.

Hike to Monterosso and visit the town.

Train to Levanto.  Rest time in Hostel or on the beach.  Dinner at a typical osteria in Levanto.

 

DAY 4

 

A morning bike ride to Bonassola is planned for those groups that do not have to leave too early.  A visit of the town and the renowned focaccia bakeries.  Return to Levanto and departure.
